The Charleston and Hilton Head tours took to Paris Island
Marine Corps Depot for their first annual Semper FI Open. We had a field of 98 players and the golf was
just as good as the golf course.
The Championship flight saw numerous golfers at even or
below par and on two separate occasions had a golfer at three under par. Jeff Wong and Lance Lacombe were both 3 under
on the back nine at one point. Jeff ran
into a little trouble on the back side to finish at one over while Lance secured
the victory with consecutive birdies on holes 15 and 16 for a three under par
69. Gerry Pascale and Elliott Johnson
finished in a tie for second with Gerry winning the scorecard playoff to secure
3rd place money.
The A flight seemed to be wrapped up by Adam Rivera who came
to the par five 18th with a three-shot lead over Sean Kenneck and
Fred Dixon. A misplayed drive and bad
second shot led to a triple bogey and a three-way playoff. The playoff only lasted one hole; Fred and
Sean were both left behnd the big tree on the left side of the fairway. Fred was able to get it over the tree and
onto the fringe. Sean came up short and
was unable to get up and down while Adam three putted for a bogey, Fred was
able to get up and down from the fringe to secure his first victory of the year.
The B flight saw some stellar play as Steven Jeter fired a 5
over par 77 to secure a one-shot victory over Paul Sherry who posted a very
nice round of 78 to finish one-shot back.
John Robinson carded a smooth 80 to round out the top three.
The C flight was just a dogfight. Duncan Taylor, Tim Parrish, and Joseph Deese
all fired rounds of 10 over 82 to finish in a tie one shot in back of Ray Clark
whose 9 over 81 secured the victory.
The D flight was a run-away as Joe Penny coasted to an 8
shot victory with a very nice round of 86.
The battle for second was where the actin was as six guys fnished with
in four shots of each other with Cleve Johnson taking home second with a 94
one-shot better than Aaron Masterson.
