The Charleston tour ventured down old, scenic, historic HWY
61 for their event at Shadow Moss Plantation on June 2nd. It was definitely a Charleston day in June.
The temperatures were high, humidity up and the course was playing a little
tough. We almost got everyone in before
the tournament ending rain, unfortunately the C and D flights had to be reduced
to a common 16 hole event.
The Championship Flight saw Eric Maland record his first
victory of the year with a solid round of 80 to outdistance the field. Eric who hails from Southern California
commented on the weather, “Unbelievably hot” was all he needed to sum up the
day.
In the A flight Fred Dixon and Steve Walters continued their
strong play of late as they finished 1st and 2nd for the
second tournament in a row. This time it
was Fred Dixon birding hole 18 for a one shot victory 77-78 over Steve. Mark Ducker, tony Capehart and Glenn Powell
all finished 3 shots back with solid 81’s.
The B flight saw Sean Kenneck keep up his strong play as
well. Sean fired a very nice round of 78
for a two shot victory over Jerry Mast.
Jeff Babin posted a nice 84 to finish in third.
The C flight saw Chris Huge become a victim of the weather
as he went from a possible one shot victory to second place as Travis Carlisle
edged Chris on the 16 hole scorecard.
Chris made up for it with a nice birdie that held on for a super skin
tho. Casey Sullivan who was really
playing well when the rain hit, took home third place honors.
In the D flight, the only question was who was going to come
in Second as Julie Johnson used her home course knowledge to post a very
impressive round of 80 that was reduced to a 69 on the 16 holes. The race for second was close between T.J.
Angerer and Sean Galpin. T.J. edged Sean
by two strokes due to the 16 hole format.
Our next event is June 23rd at Santee Cooper
Country Club. Early tee times start at 8:30. Sing up online or just shoot me an
email.
