The Charleston Tour kicked off their local campaign with a spectacular opening day. Compared to some of the other openers in the forty degree range, Sat proved to be a nice surprise as the temperature was just under 70 degrees with a gusty breeze.
The Day had two flights take it to hole number one for a playoff. In the A flight, Kasey King showed that not only can he run a newspaper but he is pretty handy with the crooked sticks. He and George King, who both fired 81's, went four holes into their playoff before Kasey was able to fight off George. Coming in third was Dan Wanner who missed out on the playoff by a single shot. Special mention to Kasey here as he Eagles hole number 15, way to go Kasey.
The B flight also had to take it extra holes as James Ravenel and Tim Sumption matched each other all day long as both shot the same score on the front and the back. The playoff ended suddenly when James' putt hit the back of the hole and jumped out. Coming in third after a three way tie was the Atlanta Tour’s Don Pennington who was one shot back along with Joe Turner and Devan Lawrence.
The C flight saw Rich Cairns run away from the field with a solid 89 while the D flight saw Brad Morris continue his solid play by firing an 89. Second place was decided on a scorecard playoff and Cowboy eked it out over Steve Hartoin.
The Closest to the Pins were won by Jace Gause, (A flt), Jerry Mast (B flt) and Mike Miller who not only was closest on hole two from the C/D guys, he made the putt and won a skin and super skin on that hole!
Overall it was a great day, pace of play was good and it was fun to have visitors from the other tours. Our next event is scheduled for Sunday the 19th of Feb and will be at the Harbor Course on the Isle of Palms.
