The Charleston Golf Week Amateur Tour held their last local
event of the season on Sat 22 Sep at Crowfield Plantation Gold Course. The
weather was perfect and the course was in great shape which helped provide some
really close finishes.
The Championship flight was a battle between three players
as Jerry Joyner, Greg Farrao and Marty Bunch were battling out for the
lead. As Greg and Marty slipped a little
on the back nine, Jerry used his steady play for a very nice round of 78 from
the back tees to win by four shots over Greg.
The A flight was another tight battle as the top four spots
were separated by 3 shots. Andy Balao
earned his first victory of year with a steady round of 79 after opening with a
triple. David Brand used his birdie on
the tough par three 16th hole to edge out Fred Dixon for second
place 80-81 respectively.
The B flight saw Denny Miller enjoy his first trip back with
the tour for a one shot victory over Tim Sumption and Jim McQuiston who both
carded 84’s to Denny’s 83.
The C flight was not much of a battle as Chris Huge played
one of his better rounds for a hard fought 87 to not only secure the victory
but also secured he season long points battle race for the Charleston Tour.
The D Flight saw Julie Johnson earn her third victory of the
year with a solid round of 91 for an 11 shot victory over Season long points
Champion Mike Flanigan.
