Winter Freezer Lives up to its name
AGAIN!!
The
Charleston Tour kicked off their season at Wild Dunes Harbor Course with their
annual “Winter Freezer” event which lived up to its name again. It was chilly but the golf was hot and the
course despite being cart path only was in fantastic condition. The greens were spectacular.
The
Championship flight was a fight throughout the day as Andy Balao, Mike Cobb and
Dan Constatanino from the Upsate tour battled back and forth all day. The par five fourteenth was the crucial hole
as Dan birdied it while Mike and Andy had a bogie and a double
respectively. Daniel held on for the
Victory with Mike finishing in second.
The A flight
demonstrated how hot the golf was as Sean Kenneck made the turn in 3 under par
with Birdies on the first two holes as well as hole 8. Playing along side Sean, Glenn Powell kept
grinding away and fired a 1 under par 35 on the back nine to tie Sean at 74. The two took to an on the course playoff with
Glenn making Par on the tough opening hole to secure his first victory of the
year. Mark Ducker, 76 and Fred Dixon
rounded out the top four.
The B
flight saw Jace Gause and Roland Hoffman battle it out all day. Roland fired a nice 40 on the outward nine
but Jace’s even par 36 on the back proved to be a bit to much as he edged out Roland
by a shot 78 to 79.
The C
flight had newcomer Michael Becker prove the chill and wind was very pleasant
as he posted a very nice round of 84 to post his first victory of the
year. Julie Johnson came out swinging
and posted a solid round of 86 for sole possession of second place while Vince
Ackerman, 88 and newcomer Jason Cooper 89 rounded out the top four.
The D
flight had the field chasing down Aaron Chase!
Aaron posted a nice round of 96 and challenged the flight to catch
him. Michael Miller was up to the
challenge as he posted a solid round of 94 to claim his first victory of the
year!
Our next
event is the Pawleys Island invitational in two weeks and our next local event
will be the Seabrook (Crooked Oaks) Soiree on Feb 29th.
