The Charleston and Columbia tours held their annual Monday
event at beautiful Orangeburg Country Club.
Not only was it a big field but the golf weather gods dialed up the most
perfect day, albeit a bit windy. We had a shotgun start at 10:00 and there was
some great golf played as usual. The course was in great shape and the greens
were rolling very well.
The Championship Flight was a little small this time around
but Jeff Jordan and Zake Masterson provided some spectacular play with both firing
a 76 from the Tips. The took to the course for an on-the-course playoff that
went four holes with Jeff securing the victory with a par on the tough par four
forth hole.
The A flight saw Newly Promoted Jerry Mast keep up his
stellar play by carding a very nice round of 76 himself for a three shot
victory of Sen Kenneck who posted a very solid 79. Ted Turner Rounded out the top three with a
very strong score of 80.
The B flight saw the top three places come out of one
foursome as Beth Hunt had back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15 to hold off
the field for her first victory of the year! Tim Sumption finished two shots behind
Bethe while there was a group of three who posted an 84, Lawrence Whiteside, Myron
Samuels and Michael Menna with Michael taking third place on the score card
playoff.
The C flight saw Lynn Rhode continue his good play this year
as he fired a very nice round of 84 for a two shot victory over Joe Brown and
Crys Peyton who both carded 86’s with Joe winning via the scorecard
playoff.
The D flight had the round of the Day as Donna Johnson who
used to be a member at Orangeburg country club used her local knowledge to run
away from the field with a stellar 83 for a 7 shot victory over Terry Bale who
carded a nice round of 90. Coming in third was Chad Oates who carded a 91.
