The two low country tours gathered at one of the fine courses in our sister city, Santee and held a shoot-out that was not quote the shoot out we expected. The course was fast, the greens were faster and the pins had some APB’s sent out on them!! Seriously the course was in great shape and it provided a true test of golf. Chris Burnett from the Hilton Head tour took it upon himself to represent the Championship flight in fine fashion by firing a 76 for low round of the day. The A flight saw some superior play from the back tees as Eric Tobias, the Charleston golfer of the Week shot a very impressive 77 carding one birdie and proving consistency is the way to attack. Following Eric in the A flight were guest Glenn Powell who carded a 79 with some spectacular putting and Roger Demarco who also fired a 79. The B flight saw Pat Helm take advantage of her straight drives as she carded an 82 to outdistance fellow Hilton Head golfer Craig Edhe who shot an 83 from the back tees. Two very good rounds from a tough distance, well done. The C flight saw tour veteran John Donat shoot a very impressive 82 and take his flight by a full six shots over his nearest competitor, David Mays who shot an 88 to continue his solid play over the last couple of months. The D flight went to Dennis Harris who fired an 82, to outpace the field. Coming in second was our locally army contingent, Kevin Debold who shot a 91 to finish in second. All in all it was a great day, but we need to work a little more on our pace of play. Our next event is at Charleston National, a true gem in the low country. Lets sign up early and spread the word to our friends who would like to come out and give the tour a try, this would be a great course to do so.
