The Charleston Tour rambled down main road to scenic
Seabrook Island to take on the challenging Ocean Winds golf course. The course was in fantastic shape, the greens
were some of the best we have played this year. The trees were many and close
to the fairway yet some very good golf was played.
Chris Legare made the drive up from Hilton Head to play the
challenging trac and was uncontested as he posted a nice round of 82. The A flight saw Kevin Saylor show what he
can do when healthy. Kevin fired a one over par round that included 6 birdies.
Easily the round of the year for Kevin, Great Job. Secon and third place both posted rounds in
the 70’s as Dan Wanner fired a 77 with Tony Capehart two shots back with a
smooth 79. The B flight had an
out-of-town winner as Paul Sherry posted a very nice round of 81 to secure
first place. One shot back of Paul was Chris Gamblin who held of James Ravenel
and Bill Chick who both posted 83 with James taking third place on the
scorecard playoff. The C flight saw
Jason Courtney return to the winners circle as he posted a nice round of 92 on
his “nemesis” course. Coming in second
one shot back was Chris Huge who posted a nice round of 93. In the D flight we were watching to see if
Julie Johnson could pull off her second straight victory. She went to eighteen
with a one-shot lead of Mike Miller.
Julie wound up in a costly bunker and posted a 6 to finish one shot
behind winner Mike Miller who fired a 94 to claim the victory! The weather tried to interrupt and we sat out
for just about an hour. That hour break
recharged the tour and we all finished in 4 hours and thirty minutes (playing
time). Good job people. Our next event is a Sunday Combo event with
Myrtle Beach, Aug 20 at Rivertowne.
