Wescott Champs, Sumption, Miller, Overfield, Bunch and Powell
The Charleston Tour held there second Summerville event on
Jun 17 at Wescott Golf Club. The course
was in great shape, the greens were rolling true and there was some nice golf
played. The weather came in at the end
and dampened some spirits as a few had nice rounds going and really struggled
after the rains.
In the Champ flight, Marty Bunch ran away with it posting a
solid round of 75 which included three over after the rains. Eric Maland took home second place. In the A flight, Glenn Powell capped off his
great day with a Hole-In-One!! Glenn
aced the par three fourth hole and not only won the CTp and a skin, he also won
the hole in one pot that had grown to 255 dollars! Glenn also posted a very nice round of 76 to
take first place honors. Fred Dixon and
Step Jones both played some nice golf and posted strong rounds of 78 with Steph
taking home second place money by winning the scorecard playoff with a 37 to
Fred’s 40 on the back nine. The B flight
was won by Tim Sumption who posted his best round of the year with a smooth 76
that included a few nice breaks. Coming
in second place with a very solid round of 77 was Randy Tame who also
celebrated his birthday and shared his cake with us! David Kane who had the lead prior to the
rain, struggled as most did and slid down to third place by virtue of a score
card playoff with Randy. Randy had a 37
on the back nine to David’s 39. The C
flight saw Jack Overfield snap his slump with a steady round of 88 to take top
honors. Coming in second just one shot
back was Vince Ackerman followed by Jason Courtney who finished two shots
out. The D flight saw Michael Miller
post his second victory of the year (Wild Dunes) with a very nice round of 93
to edge Julie Johnson by a single shot. Julie was victimized by the weather as
well as she had a three-shot lead and watched it evaporate in the soggy
conditions. Overall it was a great day
highlighted by a hole-in-one!
