The Charleston Golfweek Amateur Tour took their travels to the South West corner of Summerville to take on Legend Oaks. The day was a great day in the Low Country with low humidity and some low scores!! We had one of our largest fields for a Charleston only event thanks to some of the members at Legend Oaks who wanted to come out and try their hand at some competitive golf.
The Championship Flight saw our newest member RJ Keurr rally for a 2 shot victory over Stephen Kauble. Stephen posted a 74 which would have seemed like a great score until the youngster Keurr birded three holes on the back to get back to even par. Great round RJ and welcome to the tour.
The A flight saw a former club champion at Legend Oaks use his guile and knowledge to Post a 78 to force a playoff with Mark Ducker. In the end Fred Dixon prevailed over mark while Jace Gause took third and birded both par threes on the back and won the Closest to the pin for the Champ/A flight.
The B flight proved that local knowledge sure does help as the B flight was swept by members of Legend Oaks. Tim Sumption posted his first victory in over a year by firing a 77 to edge Joe Turner and Chris Petrescus by a single shot.
The C flight saw Marc Godzizs shoot an 86 to continue his solid play by posting a one shot victory over Jason Courtney and rounding out the top three was Sean Gilpen.
The D flight saw another new member win his first event as Larry Crosby bested Legend Oaks member Mark Frederick by a shot to capture victory number one!. Larry also captured the closest to the pin for the D flight. Other closest to the Pin winners were B flight Jon Gunnison, C Flight Paul Russel.
On the schedule we have two big events coming up. We travel up to Lake Lure to compete in the Southern Regional on the 29th and 30th of June. For those of you that don't know there is also a SKINS GAME on the 28th. It will be tee times starting at 11:08 and is a great chance to check out Apple Valley. After the Southern Regional our next event will be at the Marine Corps Depot, Paris Island. The best military Golf course on the east coast.
