John Shores ("A" Flight Champion)
Turtle Point Club at Kiawah Island hosted the second event for the Charleston Division of the EGolf Amateur Tour on Saturday February 23, 2008. The course is a very challenging layout with the ocean breeze a constant threat. The breeze this week was very windy as witnessed by the higher than usual scores in every flight. However, the weather turned out great and the course was in fantastic condition with very quick greens. The Turtle Point staff did a great job in ensuring the event ran smoothly and all the players enjoyed playing such a beautiful course.
Troy Phillips of Charleston fired an 84 to take the Championship Flight top honor. Jace Gause from Goose Creek, SC finished second with Alex Kiproff of Hilton Head in third place, and Matt Metz of Summerville in fourth; all three players finished with scores of 87.
“A†Flight, John Shores of Summerville continued his fine play to take the win in a play-off over Bob Potter of N.Charleston with a pair of 82’s. Deron Lewis of Mt. Pleasant took third in a scorecard play-off over Howard Tomlinson of Guyton, GA. Deron and Howard both scored 85.
Travis Hoffman of Summerville sailed to victory in the “B†Flight with a strong 86. Tim Sumption of Summerville finished second with a 92, just ahead of William Campbell of Charleston, who scored a 93.
“C†Flight honors went to Jason Brisini of Mt. Pleasant. Jason who has been playing very solid this year shot a 94. David Bruce of Mt. Pleasant took the scorecard play-off for second over Rick Miller of Charleston. Both players just beat the century mark with a pair of 99’s.
Dean Teal of Summerville took “D†Flight with a 94 over Bill Simmons of Hanahan, SC, who scored a 102. Christopher Hill of Ladson, SC took third with a score of 104.
The next tour stop for the Charleston Tour will be at Crowfield Plantation on Sunday, March 9. This is a very nice course and should be a great tournament event. We would like to encourage everyone to come out, join the tour, and enjoy playing competitive tournament golf. Test your skill at your level playing GOLF like the Pro’.
