On a day that turned out to be a much better golf
day than expected, 4 tour veterans were able to hold off the newcomers and
young guns to claim 4 out of the 5 flights. With the threat of rain in the
forecast and cart path only condition, 42 golfer took to the Country Club of
Hilton Head ready to do battle.
The Championship flight saw three players take to
the course. Hayden Burrows, guest from the Kentucky tour, fired a very
impressive round of 80 to take home the top spot. Matt Eisenmenger finished two
strokes back while newcomer to the tour, Attila Nagy, finished 5 back.
The A flight saw 8 players take the field. A
newcomer to the tour this year, Carson Hunt, has been a main stay at the top of
the leaderboard. Today, Carson took home his second win of the young season by
firing a tournament best round of 79. Carson won by 5 strokes over Michael
Lunch and by 6 over Randy Dees, Michael Dion and Mark Harrison.
The biggest flight of the day was the B flight with
13 players set to do battle. Keith Weaver set the mark early in the day by
firing an 81. In the end, it was enough for a 5-stroke win over David Brown and
Billy Gamblin. This was Weaver’s first win of the season and he repeats as
champion of this tournament from last year.
The C flight 11 players in the field. When it was
all said and done, it came down to hole 18 to declare the winner. Noel
Coolican, who has been on fire so far this year, posted and 86 to take home his
second victory of the season. Finishing one stroke back was Matt Nemes followed
by Bill Smith and Jimmy Bryson, who were 3 back.
The D flight saw the largest margin of victory
today. Lonnie Harley posted a season best 92 to take home the top spot over the
other 6 golfers in the field. Lonnie’s 92 was 6 strokes better than Tom Arledge
who finishes second for the second straight tournament. Finishing third was
Felipe Aguilar.
