What a Beautiful Day of Golf.
The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes was the host course for the most recent tournament for the Hilton Head-Savannah Tour. The day could not have been any better for golf as the temperature was steadily in the mid 70’s with a slight breeze all day long. The course was in perfect condition with the greens running smooth and true. A total of 30 golfers were on the course and ready to take on the wide open track.
The Championship Flight consisted of two very competitive and steady golfers. Ryan Fussell and Michael Phelps both took to the course in a quest to take home the top spot. The two battled all round long and stood toe to toe with each other from start to finish. In the end it was Ryan Fussell winning his third tournament of the year with a steady 81 on the day. Michael put together a solid round of 85 to fall just short of Ryan.
The A flight saw the only two golfers of the day break into the 70’s. John Cabaniss went 39-35 for a very nice round of 74 on the day to take home the top spot. John was able to hold off the other 70’s shooter on the day, Michael Dion (77), by three. Both players felt very good about their rounds today; as they should be. Great rounds by two very solid and good players. Rounding out the top three was Jeff Jordan with his round of 80 on the day.
The B flight saw 10 players take to the course in order to compete for the title. With only 2 players breaking into the 80’s, it was a very interesting scoreboard for this flight. When all the scorecards where in, it was birthday boy Darrell Bazemore standing on top for the win. Coming in second was Doug Hudock (89). Rounding out the top three was Thomas Burden (91).
The C flight was where all the fireworks were for today. With 6 players in the flight, it was shaping up to be a very heated and intense battle. It couldn’t have been much more tightly bunched at the top with only 2 strokes separating the top four players. Jess Haynes and Shawn Lessig both carded 82 on their cards and were headed out to a playoff. It took two holes before a winner was declared and that winner was Shawn Lessig. Finishing third was Erik Eadie (83) and fourth was Keith Weaver (84).
The D flight saw 5 players today. Don Varble set the early lead with a 95 on the day. Waiting on the last group to come in, Don was laughing and smiling as he was pleased with his round and even more pleased that he beat his good friend Kipp. Once the last group came in Don was bumped to second place by George Story. George put together a very solid round of 92 to take home yet another trophy for the year. Rounding out the top three was Peter Pagliaruli (98).
Thank you to all the golfers that showed up to play today. We look forward to seeing everyone at Crosswinds in two weeks!
