Jamie Manning- Championship Flight Winner
The Charleston and Hilton Head/Savannah Divisions of THE EGolf AMATEUR TOUR held their first combo event of the 2008 season on Saturday, March 29 at the Penny Branch Golf Club located near Walterboro off I-95 in Furman, SC. The course as one player put it “is out in the middle of nowhereâ€. Penny Branch is a wonderful layout with an old style feel and look. There are no cart paths to follow and the layout is wonderful. The greens are fast and almost every putt has some break to it. The player that reads and executes putts well has an advantage on this course. It was a beautiful day to play, with a warm soft breeze, but late in the day the wind strengthened. The back nine for the “C†and “D†Flights were tough to play and really created problems for club selection. Wendy and her staff were very helpful, as everything was set up and everyone made to feel welcome. The tournament played in just under 5 hours and everyone had a great time.
Jamie Manning of Hilton Head took the honors in Championship Flight with a smooth 73 over Dominic Lizarraga of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Arnie Reddick of Rincon, GA who carded 75’s. Dom captured the scorecard play-off with Arnie placing third just ahead of Kevin Arnold’s 78. Matt Metz of Summerville, Marcus Byler and Gerry Pascale of Hilton Head all carded scores of 79.
Howard Tomlinson from Guyton, GA took the Senior Championship Flight honors with a nice round of 74.
“A†Flight winner, Pete Snow of Hilton Head shot a nice round of 75 to put up a double win as he also took the “A†Senior Flight honors. James Kelly from Bluffton, the last tournament winner in “A†Flight continued to play well. James finished second with a 77, just ahead of Steve Walters of Charleston who shot a 78.
Travis Hoffman from Summerville continued his great play to take the “B†Flight win with a stellar round of 75. John Barr of Port Wentworth, GA placed second with a round of 79, just ahead of John Spencer of Charleston who carded an 80 for third place.
John Barr’s 79 was also good enough to hang onto the “B†Flight Senior win.
David Fuentes of Garden City, GA held on to win the “C†Flight with an 87 for his second straight win. John Donat of Beaufort shot an 88 for second, just ahead of three players. Richard Cairns from Summerville, Mark Duggar of Rincon, GA, and Jason Brisini from Mt. Pleasant all finished tied at 89. Richard took third in a card play-off.
Robert Klein of Bluffton shot 86 to win the “C†Flight Senior Tour honors.
Michael Miller of Summerville took the “D†Flight win with a score of 89. Dean Teal from Summerville and Andrew Dart of Hilton Head finished regulation play tied at 91. Dean took the scorecard playoff with Andrew finishing third.
Olin Williams from Hilton Head captured the “D†Flight Senior crown over Bob Hagan of Charleston. Olin shot a spectacular round of 85. Way to go Olin.
