Goodbye 2010!

The last event for the 2010 season was held at Island West Golf Club on Saturday December 11th. The weather played a cruel joke on 36 golfers from the Charleston and Hilton Head-Savannah Tours. We expected 62* and sunny, but what we got was 45* and rainy. Needless to say, with the weather, the conditions the course and a 2011 membership on the line, the course played a little tougher today.
The Championship flight saw three golfers battle it out. Clint Knisley, Jace Gause and Robert Wyrick all took to the course in hopes of winning the prize money and their 2011 membership. When it was all said and done, Clint Knisley (75) walked away with a seven stroke win over Robert Wyrick (82) and an eleven stroke win over Jace Gause (86). Clint won both preseason events this year. Congratulations Clint!
The A flight had the biggest turnout for the tournament. A total of 12 golfers battled it out to claim the end of the year prizes. Players were all very competitive and turned in scores ranging from 78 to 94. In the end, Randall Webb turned in the winning score by carding a 78 on the day. Coming in second was Bob Potter and Mike Peters with an 82, Bob wins in a scorecard playoff.
The B flight also had a great turnout with 10 golfers. George King, who won the preseason event at Penny Branch, took home the top spot again with an 82 on the day. Following close behind George was Pat Helm with her 84 to secure second place. Joe Turner rounds out the top three with an 85. Congrats on winning two in a row George!
The C flight saw seven golfers take to the course. In the end John Donat and Andrew Dart were the only two golfers to break into the 80’s on the day. John fires an 84 to take home the top spot over Andrew (87). Rounding out the top three was Bob Hagan (95).
The D flight consisted of four golfers today, all battling it out for the top spot. In the end, Dennis Harris was able to hold off Todd Champitto, Glen Cunningham and Nathan Alexander to secure his 2011 membership and the first place prize.
Congratulations to all the winners in both preseason events. The 2011 season will begin in one month with the Ice Breaker two-day tournament at Palmetto Dunes on Jan. 15 and 16. I look forward to seeing everyone there and let’s make 2011 our best season yet.
